I have been searching for a recipe with which to produce a pear beer. I have had a very full crop of pears this year and am looking for something useful and flavorful to do with them. Can anybody help me?

If you can find and use pear juice instead of pureeing the pears like I did, let me know how it turns out.

I brewed the AHS Raspberry Wheat last weekend, and tried adding 12oz of pureed raspberries with the flavor hops. Unfortunately this time around neither the flavor nor aroma of the raspberries carried through as strongly as the pears did.

So basically it's the AHS clone of Devil's Brew with a pint of Pear Juice added with the flavor hops. Sweet. I'm gonna brew it.

It turned out great! The pear flavor was much more subtle than I would have guessed given the aroma of the fermenting wort and the final product itself. Judging from all of my friend's reactions, I'd have to say it's been the most well liked brew so far. The haziness that resulted from boiling the pear sauce was pretty minimal in the end, so if you can't find pear juice, I wouldn't worry about going the puree/boiling route.

If you're interested in the recipe (it was a honey ale), I'd be happy to pass it along to you.

i just purchased a home brew kit and made a cherry wheat for my first batch. I used 2 jars of cherries (i mashed them)...came out pretty tasty. anyway, i was talking about my little project with a fellow beer guru at work when he thought up a pear pale ale. i was considering trying it and found this on a google search...so how is it?
